Regulation of Angular Impulse during Golf Swings with Different Clubs

چکیده
INTRODUCTION Regulation of linear and angular momentum during well-practiced goal-directed movements involves control of the total body center of mass trajectory (CM) in relation to the reaction forces generated during contact with the environment[1]. During the golf swing, the resultant horizontal component of the reaction force (RFh) at each foot creates a moment about a vertical axis passing through the CM that accelerates rotation of the body toward the target. Prior to the initiation of the down swing, this force couple applied to the body is created by the posterior directed RFh applied to the target foot (left foot in right handed players) and the anterior directed RFh applied to the rear foot (right foot)[2]. Generation of linear momentum in the direction of the target has been associated with the “shift in weight” from the rear leg to the target leg during the downswing[3,4], all while maintaining the CM trajectory within the base of support. Temporal sequencing of RFs generated by the same player using different clubs (driver vs irons) has been reported to be consistent within player[2]; However, magnitudes of the vertical and anterior posterior components of the target leg RF were reported to be higher than when using a driver as compared to an iron [2].

The role of the shaft in the golf swing.
Current marketing of golf clubs places great emphasis on the importance of the correct choice of shaft in relation to the golfer. The design of shafts is based on a body of received wisdom for which there appears to be little in the way of hard evidence, either of a theoretical or experimental nature. In this paper the behaviour of the shaft in the golf swing is investigated using a suitable dy...
متن کاملSynchronized metronome training induces changes in the kinematic properties of the golf swing.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate possible effects of synchronized metronome training (SMT) on movement dynamics during golf-swing performance, as captured by kinematic analysis. A one-group, between-test design was applied on 13 male golfers (27.5 +/- 4.6 years old, 12.7 +/- 4.9 handicap) who completed 12 sessions of SMT over a four-week period. Pre- and post-assessments of golf swings...
متن کاملThe Influences of Motor Control Adaptation and Human-Equipment Interaction on Issues Related to Golf-Club Design and Optimization
In the current sport-equipment industry, equipment evaluation and/or optimization are mainly done through pure mechanical procedures. It is known that any change of performance environment would cause one to adapt certain aspects of his or her movements to the changed environment. Variation of sport-equipment is counted as an environment change for human performance. Yet, the equipment-induced ...

The process of matching clubs with appropriate shafts to individual players is largely one of trial and error. Bending stiffness or shaft flex, mass, damping, torsional stiffness, and bend point are widely accepted as being the five main shaft properties that affect performance in golf. Considerable debate surrounds the individual and combined dynamic influence of these factors during the golf ...
متن کاملReal-ear acoustical characteristics of impulse sound generated by golf drivers and the estimated risk to hearing: a cross-sectional study
OBJECTIVES This study investigated real-ear acoustical characteristics in terms of the sound pressure levels (SPLs) and frequency responses in situ generated from golf club drivers at impact with a golf ball. The risk of hearing loss caused by hitting a basket of golf balls using various drivers was then estimated. DESIGN Cross-sectional study. SETTING The three driver clubs were chosen on ...
